People that use online dating as an avenue for finding a date or a long term relationship tend to be very competitive. The competition is so intense that very often you will find that a lot of members lie about things such as age and occupation. Members are also known to post pictures that are outdated. People go to many extremes to find a date or love.
Functioning under false pretenses can be very difficult. It is so very important that you tell nothing but the truth on your profile. Remember, you will eventually meet a person and they will eventually find out the truth.
So the question is, how do you go about building a good, sound profile? Below I have listed 2 pointers to assist you in improving your profile.
1. Keep The Outwanteds Out.
The reason you join an online dating service is so you can find someone that suits you and your needs. Your focus should not be to get as many responses to your profile as possible; instead you should desire to get responses from the type of people that you are attracted to. It is very important that you create filters for yourself when you explain what it is that you are looking for in a person.
Here is an example:
Choice #1 I am looking for a person that likes to have a lot of fun and that can humor me on a regular basis.
Choice #2 I am in search of a woman between the ages of 26 and 30 that has a sweet spirit and a sense of humor about themselves and life. If you have long, beautiful blonde hair and would love to watch Sunday sports with me, then we could be the perfect match. I would love to hear from you.
Choice #2 gave you an age, appearance, hobby and response filter. You expressed what you’d like them to look like, be into, and that you would like to hear back from them if this fits them. You basically created a call to action which let them know that you are looking for an immediate response.
2. Don’t be Negative.
It is such a turn off to have to hear about how much someone hates their ex or even how much they loved them. The same thing goes for building a profile. When someone is trying to get to know you by reading your profile, the last thing that they want to hear about is things that you hate.
Be positive. Don’t use your profile to tell everyone that internet dating has been a bad experience for you and everyone that you know. It is not wise to say you hate a certain type of music or religion. Focus on the things that you love and that you love to do. Positivism is so important in life. It will come off in your profile if you are not a happy person.
